British Fossils.
British Museum of Natural History.
This
series of three books has established itself as the classic work of reference for all
students of geology. It provides information on which fossils one may expect to find
amongst the wealth of geological horizons occurring in Britain, and at the same time aids
in the identification of the species once they have been found. Amateur and professional
paleontologists alike will continue to find that these volumes are as important to their
studies as their hand lens and geological hammer.

Investigation and Management of Erosion, Deposition and Flooding in Great
Britain.
Great
Britain Department of the Environment. 1995.
Erosion, deposition and flooding are natural phenomena and an
integral part of the natural landscape. The processes can for example shape the coastal
cliffs and broad meandering rivers that are part of our natural heritage. These processes
only become hazards or problems when society encroaches into these dynamic environments
either for housing, development or transportation. Here attitudes can vary dramatically.
This study aims to provide an assessment of erosion, deposition and flooding processes,
with particular reference to their significance to land use planning and development, and
the impact on the economy and significance for the environment. Paperback, 234 pp., illustrated with charts and graphs.

ISO 14001 Case Studies and Practical Experiences.
Ruth Hillary. 2000.
This publication gives real Case Studies
and practical experiences from companies such as Nike, Amec and the New York
Transit Authority who have implemented ISO14001 and environmental management
systems. It deals with the key issues surrounding environmental management,
environmental performance, sustainability, integration, stakeholders and the use
of IT. Readers of this book will find it beneficial from a practical "what to
do, what not to do" stance as well as strategically - how to build the business
case for 14001. Co-published with Greenleaf, this publication has been written
by Ruth Hillary, a specialist in environmental management systems with a
particular reference to SME's. Ruth is director of NEMA, Editor of the CBI
Environmental Management Handbook and Co-editor of Europe Corporate
Environmental Strategy. Hardcover, 360 pp.

Landsliding in Great Britain.
Great
Britain Department of the Environment. 1995.
Landsliding is a hazard that many
people in Great Britain fail to take seriously. Large tracts of the country appear too
flat to threaten major instability, while those areas which do contain high, steep slopes
are generally sparsely populated so the risks appear low. However, appearances can be
deceptive. Not only are there numerous reported landslides each year which cause damage
and sometimes death, but there are also many thousands of old landslides which can move
again if disturbed. There is clearly a need for a book that describes the nature of the
threat presented by landsliding in the UK for the non-specialist. This book attempts to
fill that need. Its purpose is to provide an informed, readable and relatively
non-technical appreciation of landsliding in Britain based on current knowledge. The
objective is to provide an explanation of what the various types of landslide look like,
where they occur, why they occur, what is known about the major phases of movement in the
past, their impact on the British economy and the ways in which landslide-imposed costs
can be limited in the future. Paperback, xx + 361 pp., illustrated in
color and b/w with 32 pp. of color plates.

Ordovician (Caradoc) Marginal Basin Volcanism in Snowdonia (North-west Wales).
M.F. Howells, A.J. Reedman
& S.D.G. Campbell, British Geological Survey. 1991.
A major geochemical study of the volcanic
rocks has been accomplished alongside multi-disciplinary studies of sedimentology,
physical volcanology, palaeontology, structure and metamorphism. The great age of this
volcanic province, subsequent tectonic events, uplift and erosion have allowed the study
to encompass all stages from its birth, through its maturity into its lingering death, in
a way that is denied those analyzing younger activity. This book represents a major
advance in our understanding of volcanic processes in marine environments, acidic ash-flow
tuffs in subaerial and subaqueous settings, tectonic controls on volcanism and
sedimentation and petrogenetic modeling. Paperback, 191 pp.

Tracks of Triassic
Vertebrates.
Fossil Evidence from North-West England.
G. Tresise & Wm. Sarjeant. 1997.
Fossil footprints deriving from large vertebrates dating from the
Triassic period were found in both Germany and England in the 1930's. This lavishly
illustrated book traces the history of the tracks in NW England, and narrates the finds of
the 19th century, drawing from unpublished contemporary accounts and illustrations. It
also describes the turn of the century work of iconologist Henry Beasley, whose extensive
photographic archive is both fully inventoried and generous illustrated here.
